Annual Sports Day
Tuesday, 17 Sep 2013 14:20
The IPEM International School held its Annual Sports Day on February 17, 2010. This is perhaps the most important event organized by the school, and all the students and staff come together to make it a success. It would not be wrong to say that the IPEM International School takes utmost pride in the Annual Sports Day. The program began with the welcoming of the Chief Guest, Wing Cdr. Vineet Hemraj, who declared the meet open by releasing lemon yellow and green coloured balloons, symbolizing the IPEM International School colours. The Chief Guest was welcomed by Dr. S. D. Liddle, Director and Principal.
The first item of the program was the March Past, which was performed with precision and perfect synchronization by all four houses. Yellow House was awarded the shield for the March Past for their outstanding display. This was followed by a variety of races and competitions of the Pre-Primary students  such as “Bursting of Balloons,” “Rabbit Race,” and “Cinderella Race,”. Classes 1 and 2 presented a Theme Drill (School Emblem), which was followed by Tug o’ War. Red House (Boys) and Blue House (Girls) won the first prize in this event. Inter-house races including the 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, and relay races were also held; the participants included our middle school and class IX students. The prize-winners for the above-mentioned races were as follows:

100 m (Boys): 1st Mohd. Adnan, 2nd Mohd Sarim, and 3rd Vikalp Yadav
100 m (Girls): 1st Mantasha Khan, 2nd Palak Madhyan
200 m (Boys): 1st Mohd. Sarim, 2nd Mohd. Adnan, and 3rd Vikalp Yadav
200 m (Girls): 1st Mantasha Khan, 2nd Palak Madhyan, and 3rd Adeeba Fatima
Relay 100 x 4 m (Boys): 1st Green House and 2nd Red House
Relay 100 x 4 m (Girls): 1st Blue House and 2nd Green House

In the Drill Display, Green House won the first prize. The Drill Display, which was an inter-house event, was performed by students from Classes 3 to 5. Red House brought a traditional flavour to the event with their “Dandiya Drill.” The students were dressed in traditional Gujarati costumes—chania cholis for the girls and dhotis and short kurtas for the boys. With the use of dandiya sticks, the Red House presented a beautiful display of this traditional dance. Using an umbrella as their prop, Blue House showcased what they called the “Umbrella Drill.” In the backdrop, one could see dark clouds, a rainbow, and the sun. Yellow House brought the Japanese dragon to the IPEM field in their “Japanese Fan Drill.” Dressed in bright yellow traditional Japanese costumes, the girls and boys performed exceptionally well. It was, however, the dragon that caught everyone’s eye. A chain of students together comprised the dragon’s body and head. The winning house, Green House, presented the “Rainbow Drill.” Students were dressed in the seven colours of the rainbow, and they used pompoms as a prop to make their drill more spectacular.

The Pyramid Display, which was also an inter-house event, was performed by students from Classes 3 to 5. Blue House bagged the top spot in Pyramid Display with the most relevant theme of the hour, “Save the Environment.” Red House made a peacock formation, in which the students were dressed in pretty pinks and reds. Green and Yellow Houses had similar themes, “Peace be on Earth” and “Symbol of Unity and Prosperity,” respectively. While Green House made a dove formation to represent its theme, Yellow House used a lotus formation to spread the message.

The hard work and creativity of the students and teachers shined on the field in these two events. In the end, it was Blue House who succeeded in winning the “Liddle Shield,” scoring the maximum points in both academic and co-curricular activities that were conducted throughout the year. In conclusion, the event was a huge success. Our guests were very impressed with the creativity of the various Drill Displays, the skill of the karate presentations, and the ingenuity of the Pyramid Displays. The program concluded under the able guidance of Mrs. S. Liddle, Vice Principal. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. U. Eusebius, Coordinator.
