You should meet any ONE of the following English Language Requirements
4) HOW GOOD IS UCE?
UCE is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom
with 9 campuses and over 25,000 students enrolled and very good research
facilities. The size and diversity of the University, combined with its
excellent record in widening participation, ensures an interesting student mix
which reflects a broad range of cultures, nationalities, interests and age
ranges.
UCE's location in the centre of the country also ensures a
vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere since the University is easily accessible from
almost anywhere in the UK and from overseas. Its location in the lively
metropolitan city of Birmingham which is also one of the industrial & business
centers, is a major strength since students have access to many jobs during and
after their courses and a host of attractions, facilities and entertainments.
The UCE Business School Postgraduate programmes are designed
to develop managerial knowledge and skills to meet the challenges faced by new
managers in the ever more demanding and dynamic environment of the future. UCE
aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to excel within a variety of
contexts. UCE believes that they have created a stimulating and exciting
environment where staff and students enter into a learning partnership with
commerce and industry, which is relevant for both the public and private
sectors. UCE has the distinction of being one of the few universities offering
placement to their students of MBA and MSc.
5) FEE:
The Tuition Fees for the Msc. Businesses Management Programme is
7800* pounds. For MBA the tuition fee is 9500* pounds.
For students who get advanced entry to the UCE MBA Programme the tuition fee is
about 6833* pounds (students who have already done their MBA from India and want
to do another MBA can apply for advanced entry).
In addition to the tuition fee you have to pay a seat
reservation fee of 600 pounds. This fee is only payable after The University
gives you an offer of admission. This fees is paid to confirm your place at the
University. 50% of the seat reservation fee (₤300) is refundable incase you
don’t get a visa. (i.e. incase you don't get a visa and are not able to go the
UK).
Course fee can be paid in two installments. Students get a
5% discount on full payment in one installment.. The first installment of
tuition fee is payable on the first day of reaching for classes and the second
installment is payable on the first day of the second semester.
However you can pay the fee in advance from India though
demand draft, international credit card, travelers cheques or wire transfer. All
fee is payable to the university directly and IPEM does not accept any payments
on behalf of the university. IPEM recommends payment of fee by Demand Drafts as
it is the safest and cheapest way and you always have a proof of payment.
6) SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID:
Universities in the UK do not offer any scholarship and financial aid to
international students before admission. However if a student performs well he
may get a scholarship in the later semesters of the course. However students are
able to support themselves easily by working part time which is mentioned later
on in the “advantages of studying in the UK”. Exceptionally good students may
request for a Bursary (discount) of 5% from the tution fee, however this is
given to very few really good students with an excellent past academic record.
7) WHEN DOES THE SEMESTER START?
The session starts mid September 2004 and ends in the next year in September
2005. We recommend that your application should be received by us before June
2004 so that you surely get admission (if you meet eligibility requirements) and
you have sufficient time to prepare visa documentation and make travel
arrangements.
8) ACCOMMODATION:
All students who get admission to UCE postgraduate courses in management are
assured accommodation in the halls of residence (hostel). UCE has accommodation
facilities for over 2100 students. The two halls of residence suitable for
management students are: The Coppice and Oscot Gardens which are 2 Minute a walk
from the Perry Barr Campus (Business School). In the coppice 6 Students have to
share 2 toilets and at Oscot Gardens each room has an attached Toilet. The
coppice is cheaper than Oscot Gardens by 10 pounds per week.
The other Halls of Residence
are the Cambrian Hall which is in the city Centre, Westbourne Campus in
Edgebaston and Hampstead which is 2 miles west of the Perry Barr Campus. The
halls are fully equipped with all furnishings and cooking facilities. For more
information check the UCE Guide to Student Accomodation.
Students must file their application for accommodation at the time of
application to get a room in their preferred choice of the Halls. Some students
may find it cheaper to stay in Private accommodation which costs about 50 pounds
per week as compared to the Halls which costs about 65-75 pounds per week.
9) NO RACISM:
The UCE is one of the largest Universities of the UK with thousands of
International students with an interesting student mix which reflects a broad
range of cultures, nationalities, interests and age ranges. Therefore students
from South Asian countries do not face any problem of racial discrimination
which is prevalent in some universities in the UK.
ADVANTAGES OF STUDYING IN THE UK
1) EDUCATION QUALITY ASSURED
The UK operates a unique quality assurance system that ensures accountability in
all areas. From student support services to the quality of the teaching staff,
every school, further education and higher education establishment is subject to
rigorous scrutiny by the government.
This system allows students to compare the choice of courses on offer on a
like-for-like basis, secure in the knowledge that each one has been assessed
according to the same demanding criteria.
"In a world of life-long learning, UK
education is a first-class ticket for life." - The Prime Minister, the Rt
Hon Tony Blair, MP
The fact that a UK education is second to none should come as no surprise.
With a history dating back almost 800 years, the UK way of learning has inspired
education systems the world over and is still among the most valued and
successful.
2) CHEAPER
In UK you Save 50% in tuition fee and cost of living as course duration
is one year as compared to 2 years in the US, Australia or Canada.
3) NO QUALIFYING EXAMS:
No requirement of GMAT which is required for applying in the US. Therefore this
saves time and money involved in preparing & appearing for the GMAT exam. Some
students are able to claim exemption to the IELTS/TOEFL if they have over 70% in
English in their Class 12th and have studied in English Medium
Schools throughout.
4) LESSER FORMALITIES &
EASY VISA:
Getting a UK student visa is considerably more simple and easy to get as
compared to many other countries..
5) EQUAL RECOGNITION OF
DEGREES:
Degrees from good universities in the UK have internationally the same value as
degrees from the USA. Also from the academic point of view post graduate
programmes in the UK are just as good as those in the US and better than those
of Australia.
6) OPPORTUNITIES TO
EARN WHILE STUDYING:
Every International student is allowed to work 20 Hours per week in the UK and
full time during vacations.
Students get jobs very easily in shopping malls, offices, university campuses
etc. The Minimum Wage for anyone in the UK is 5–10 pounds. Therefore if a
student works 5 Days a Week, 4 Hours a Day or ten hours on Saturday and Sunday
he will be able to work 20 hours a week. This amounts to 140 pounds (20 hours *
£7) a week which is almost twice the amount spent on living expenses per week.
We recommend that students don’t take up part time jobs during the first
semester.
Many of our students
studying at UCE or in the UK did not need to ask their parents for any money for
their living expenses after they reached UK !
7) COST OF LIVING AS A
STUDENT:
As a student the cost of living works out to be 60-70 pounds per week for those
living in private accommodation and 75-90 pounds per week for those living in
the halls of residence. This costs includes rent, food etc. However all
international students are able to easily earn more than double the cost of
living by working part-time as mentioned in the previous point. There are many
benefits available to international students that can make life in the UK more
affordable. Discounts are negotiated by the National Union of Students on behalf
of their members. With up to 50% off anything from books, stationery and food to
clothes, travel and entertainment, an NUS card can significantly reduce the cost
of living. And all students are entitled to free NUS membership.
8) PLACEMENT & WORK/PERMIT
VISA:
Most good universities like University of Central England offer students
placement after their course. Also after studying in the UK you are allowed a 1
year work visa.
Students can take the placement option with their course. In this case the 1
year placement is made a part of the final semester. Therefore there is no
problems while getting a visa. We however recommend that student request for a 1
year visa for the course and get it extended in the UK for another year (for
placement). This makes increases visa approval chances significantly.
This year more than 95% of
the students who had applied for placements got placements with salaries of upto
17,000 pounds PA. The Average Salary was about 8500 pounds PA.
In the USA there is no guarantee that you will get a work visa after you
finish your course, therefore you may not be able to work in the USA after your
education there. Reduction in the number of H1B visas (work visas) has almost
made chances of placement after completion of studies in the US negligible.
9) No 4 YEAR GRADUATION
(12+4) REQUIRED:
For admission into a Post Graduate course in US you require to have a 4 year
graduation degree or must have 16 years of education (12+4). This is a big
problem for students who have done BA, BCom, Bsc. etc. However in UK you can get
admission with 15 years of education. Therefore you can apply even if you have
got a 3 year graduation degree like BA, BCom, etc.
10) FREE HEALTH INSURANCE:
All international students staying in the UK for a period of six months or more
qualify for free healthcare through the National Health Service. Therefore if you as a student fall
sick you will not have to pay doctors consultation charges and will be entitled
to free hospitalized treatment. When you reach the campus you must register with
the National Health Services – registration is FREE.
11) CHOICE OF COURSES IN THE UK
UK offers a stunning variety and range of courses. Also on offer are hundreds of
top class education institutions.
Over 180 institutions offering degrees
Over 500 further education establishments
600 plus boarding schools
And they all welcome students from abroad.
For you, this means a perfect mix and match of location, institution, course and
fee - something that cannot be promised anywhere else in the world.
12) SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
All educational institutions in the UK understand the need to make international
students feel at home and go out of their way to ensure this. Many universities
guarantee accommodation in halls of residence for the first year, close to all
the campus facilities. And most organise welcome meetings where students can
familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.
In addition, counselling and special advice services are always available, while
student unions and societies for foreign students also offer valuable support.
But the best cure for homesickness - and the one that always works - is simply
for students to get out and get involved with UK life in all its unique
character, colour and diversity
